Two Border Patrol agents rushing to help capture some suspected illegal immigrants were killed Thursday when their SUV entered a marked railroad crossing and was struck by a freight train.
The crash happened at about 6 a.m. MST in a rural farming area near Interstate 8 and the town of Gila Bend, about 85 miles southwest of Phoenix.

Pennsylvania travelers between Harrisburg and Philadelphia will have a shorter train ride thanks to the governor of Florida. Rick Scott the state received for a high-speed rail network. Upon deciding not to the use the money that was awarded to his state to build a high-speed train, several other states are now able to complete upgrades and improve their rail service. The Department of Transportation took applications from 24 states, and on Monday divided the money and awarded the funds to 15 states.

The swollen Mississippi River set a record high water level at Natchez, Mississippi, on Wednesday -- 10 days before its expected crest in the southern city.
The level of the largest river in North America reached 58.48 feet at Natchez on Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service, above the record of 58.04 feet set in 1937. The river is expected to crest at 64 feet on May 21.

Even for 911 operators, the idea that a woman had spent seven weeks in the Nevada wilderness alone in a van and survived was unbelievable.
"She's been in it for a month?" an incredulous Elko County dispatcher said during the emergency call from the hunters who found Rita Chretien in the stranded van Friday. The hunters had just driven nine miles on ATVs through snow and mud to a remote ranch house to find a phone.

Google's image search has a new feature that might help you find images related to a specific subject. When searching for a term in Google Image Search, the images are sorted by relevance by default. Click on "sort by subject" and Google will organize the search results into categories that are likely to be relevant to you.

Iran's constitutional watchdog rebuked the president Wednesday for trying to merge Cabinet ministries without parliamentary approval — the latest sign of discord at the highest levels of the ruling Islamic system in Tehran.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been locked in a simmering confrontation for weeks with Iran's highest authority, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It appears to be part of a power struggle ahead of parliamentary elections next year and the vote for Ahmadinejad's successor in mid-2013.

Those allegations appear in a federal lawsuit alleging that the firm, Atlanta-based Aaron's Inc., loaded computers with spyware to track renters' keystrokes, make screenshots and even take webcam images of them using the devices at home. The suit filed by a Wyoming couple Tuesday raises anew questions of how invasive custodians of technology should be in protecting their equipment.

Amtrak and 15 states will share $2 billion in U.S. grant money aimed at developing high speed rail in the heavily traveled Northeast, California and the Midwest, the Obama administration said on Monday.
The money, which comes from rail funds rejected by Florida, will go to ongoing and new construction projects and to buy locomotives and rail cars.
